Section 1. Bachelor’s degree from the Faculty of Communication Sciences.

The Bachelor’s in Communication Sciences provides a wide-ranging basic grounding in the field of communication, a pre-requisite for all the higher level courses (Master’s) offered by the Faculty.

The approach followed in the Bachelor’s is particularly rich, not only in terms of the disciplines taught, but also of the methodologies employed and the areas of communication investigated.

In particular, communication is studied with the tools of both the human sciences and the social sciences, with special attention being given to the fundamental role of ICT (Information and Communication Technology) in all communicative situations.

An important part of the study programme is devoted to the methodology of communication research, focusing on both quantitative and qualitative methodologies.

Students can personalize their study programme by choosing one of three specialist areas: Business Communication, Communication and Media or Public Communication. They must also choose other optional courses and complete a final dissertation.

Language competences, which are so socially decisive, come in for special attention. In addition to English, students also have to achieve a good level in another Swiss Confederation language: German, French or Italian.

The structure of the Bachelor’s degree, which has been redesigned in the light of experience from its first two sessions, is presented in the chart below. The ECTS (European Credit Transfer System) credits are the so-called “Bologna credits”, the academic credits of the European university system.
