  • RECOGNITION OF QUALIFICATIONS

I would like to know whether a degree from your university is legally recognized by the Italian state.

At the end of a two-year Master’s programme, the University of Lugano confers a "Master of Science in Communication, Major in …" degree. This is a Swiss qualification in conformity with the Bologna Declaration, of which it corresponds to the "+2" part, which in Italy is called a "laurea magistrale". Even though no formal automatic equivalence agreement exists, therefore, the qualification can be understood internationally according to this standard, and is equivalent to a specialist degree (laurea specialistica).

Students may apply for a declaration of the level and value of their degree qualification from the University of Lugano by writing to:

    Ufficio Studi Universitari
    Residenza governativa
    6501 BELLINZONA

    Office
    tel. +41 91 814 34 39
    fax +41 91 814 44 83
    decs-usu@ti.ch

This document can then be officially approved by the Italian Consulate in Lugano (which means that they certify that it is an authentic document issued by the University) and it is then valid in Italy as a formal recognition of the qualification as a laurea specialistica (official equivalence or equipollenza).

Further details of the agreement between the Swiss Federal Council and the Government of the Republic of Italy on the mutual recognition of university qualifications may be found at:
