Docente: Bertino Somaini
Course type: Master +2
Value in ECTS: 3
Academic year 2012/2013 - Fall semester
In the last few years we have experienced several challenges in Public Health which influenced not only the health system but other social systems as well. Decisions were made and information to the public and stakeholders has influenced the outcome.
What can we learn from the past and from the present situation for future Public Health challenges? Some examples will be presented and discussed: Pandemic risk situations, the HIV epidemic, drug problems, accident rate with invalidity. Principles of Public Health are included in these discussions.
We will analyze such practical experiences and will assess some issues we face today and in the future (obesity and the diabetes epidemic, impact of Alzheimer´s disease on society, increasing costs in the care of elderly).
These examples are challenges for the health system, for management and communication.
We will discuss how decisions were made, what consequences were seen and what we can learn. We will discuss in the class emerging problems and possible directions to reduce them.
Different case stories will help to improve knowledge and capacities of the students.
Participants of the master program will certainly get involved in such problems during their professional work.
