The module focuses on the practice of "Public Affairs". Using public affairs approaches, we will examine to what extent corporate interests and individuals can influence the process of government. In the course we will get to know institutions such as the European Commission, Parliament or Council or the US Federal Trade Commission. In order to understand and apply Public Affairs strategies the course presents the functioning of the internal market and programs, which can assist business.
The course addresses issues such as lobbying and reputation, think tanks, consultancies, stakeholder relations and the impact of corporate social responsibility on public affairs. Furthermore a critical reflection on the use and misuse of Public Affairs and Lobbying will be discussed. From an ethical point of view we will evaluate different codes of conduct for Public Affairs practitioners.
Teaching will include a series of case studies. Participants in teams will develop and present a Public Affairs strategy.
