The Carlo Betocchi Città di Firenze 2024 International Literary Prize awarded to Professor Fabio Pusterla

Prof. Fabio Pusterla, Adjunct Professor at the Faculty of Communication, Culture and Society of Università della Svizzera italiana (USI), has been awarded the Carlo Betocchi Città di Firenze 2024 International Literary Prize, an important and prestigious literary prize that has been awarded since 1982 to leading names in Italian literature. The prize will be presented at a ceremony on Thursday, 28 November 2024.

The decision to award Professor Fabio Pusterla the prize was made by the prize jury, chaired by Marco Marchi and composed of Sauro Albisani, Anna Dolfi, Antonia Ida Fontana, Francesco Gurrieri, Gloria Manghetti and Maria Carla Papini. The Carlo Betocchi Città di Firenze International Literary Prize, made possible thanks to the support of the Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Firenze and the Regional Council of Tuscany, is promoted by the Carlo Betocchi Study and Research Centre, in collaboration with the Metropolitan City of Florence, Gabinetto Scientifico-Literario G.P. Vieusseux, the University of Florence and the Primo Conti Foundation of Fiesole.

Previous winners of the prestigious award have included distinguished names in Italian literature, such as Giorgio Caproni, Mario Luzi, Anna Maria Ortese, Edoardo Sanguineti, Giuseppe Conte, Roberto Vecchioni, Patrizia Cavalli, Milo De Angelis and Antonella Anedda (lecturer at the Institute of Italian Studies at USI).

Professor Fabio Pusterla's award ceremony will take place on Thursday, 28 November 2024, at 5 pm in the Auditorium Giovanni Spadolini, Palazzo del Pegaso, Via Cavour no. 4. The event will feature readings by Fabio Facchini and musical interludes by violinist Clarice Curradi. Fabio Pusterla was born in Mendrisio in 1957. He holds a degree in modern literature from the University of Pavia, lives and works between Lombardy and Switzerland and has been a professor at USI Institute of Italian Studies (ISI) since 2014. He is one of the founders of the literary magazine "Idra", published in Milan by Marcos y Marcos and contributes to newspapers and magazines in Switzerland and Italy. He is active as a poet, translator (mainly from French, and including some Portuguese literature) and essayist; a summary of his published works is available on his personal page. His major awards include the Montale Prize (1986), the Schiller Prize (1986, 2000, 2010), the Dessì Prize (2009); the Prezzolini (1994), Lionello Fiumi (2007) and Achille Marazza (2008) Prizes for literary translation; the Gottfried Keller Prize (2007), the Swiss Literature Prize (2013) and Premio Napoli (2013) for his lifetime work.
