On December 6th PD Dr Marta Fadda has been ratified as a new member of the Ethics Committee of the Università della Svizzera italiana (USI). The Ethics Committee oversees the application of ethical principles in scientific research activities.

PD Dr Fadda is a lecturer at the Faculty of Biomedical Sciences, where she teaches Ethics in Biomedicine and sits on several committees dealing with clinical and research ethics. Her research interests are centred on the intersection of ethics and medicine, mainly focusing on vulnerable groups. She earned a Master's in Bioethics from Harvard University and a doctorate in Health Communication from USI.

The role of the Ethics Committee is to promote awareness and implementation of ethical principles by the university community. It is responsible for examining certain research projects and scientific publications from an ethical point of view and for dealing with alleged cases of plagiarism or other scientific misconduct on the part of the academic body (professors, lecturers, researchers). To date, the Ethics Committee is chaired by Professor Monica Landoni, and the other two members are lawyer Davide Cerutti and newly elected PD Dr. Marta Fadda. The Ethics Committee is also aided by a delegated professor from each Faculty, and can call on external experts.
