Prof. Colin Porlezza appointed as the new Director of the Institute of Media and Journalism

The Faculty of Communication, Culture and Society of Università della Svizzera italiana (USI) has announced the appointment of Professor Colin Porlezza as the new Director of the Institute of Media and Journalism (IMeG). The decision was made official during the Faculty Council meeting on 19 February 2025. Prof. Porlezza succeeds Professor Matthew Hibberd, current Dean of the Faculty and Director of the Master in Media Management, as well as former Director of IMeG.

With his consolidated experience in the field of media research, Colin Porlezza has expressed his enthusiasm for this new position: "Taking over the direction of the Institute of Media and Journalism (IMeG) is a great honour. With enthusiasm, I plan to build on the work of Prof. Matthew Hibberd, strengthening IMeG as a prominent media research centre and a reference point for the region. We will enhance collaborations with other institutes, institutions, and local organizations, promoting innovative projects that explore the relationship between media and society. Mentoring will also be a fundamental commitment to support the growth of PhD students and researchers, who are the lifeblood of the Institute. IMeG, in turn, can offer them a stimulating environment and the resources necessary to develop their research and their academic career."

Under the guidance of Prof. Porlezza, IMeG will further develop its research and training activities, strengthening its role in the academic landscape and the public debate on media and journalism.
