Again this year, students from course of French for special purposes, held by professor Regina Bollhalder Mayer, will be part of the jury who will choose the winner of the prize. Together with the USI students, fellow students from the universities of Bern, Fribourg, Neuchâtel and Zurich will read and judge the 15 novels that have entered the competition.

The third edition of the Choix Goncourt de la Suisse award, an initiative of the French Embassy in Berne, aims at contributing to promote French language literature and to enable the critical and unbiased reading of contemporary works. The prize is related to the famous French literary prize awarded by the Académie Goncourt, the ‘literary society’ as intended by the writer Edmond de Goncourt, one of the leading figures – together with his brother Jules – of the French cultural scene during the second half of the nineteenth century, a friend of authors such as Émile Zola, Gustave Flaubert, and Guy de Maupassant.
