Professor Jean-Patrick Villeneuve of USI (Institute of Public Communication, Faculty of Communication Sciences) has been nominated to sit on the international Independent Expert Panel of the Open Government Partnership (OGP), an initiative that was launched in 2011 by the then US President Barack Obama at the U.N. General Assembly meeting with seven other heads of State (Brazil, Indonesia, Mexico, Norway, Philippines, South Africa, and the United Kingdom) and an equal number of leaders from civil society.

In this role, Prof. Villeneuve will supervise the production of the Organisation’s reports on national commitments made by countries around the world. These reports evaluate each country’s progression in the attainment of its open government objectives. Prof. Villeneuve will join nine other members, all renowned experts in transparency, participation, and accountability. Their main tasks will be to evaluate and certify the progression made by national governments in the attainment of their transparency and accountability commitments.

The OGP is a global coalition of 75 governments and hundreds of civil-society organizations. It is the leading international organisation working for more open and transparent public institutions. The organisation is headquartered in Washington D.C.

Professor Villeneuve is also a member of the Independent Mediation Committee of the Canton Ticino, a committee that promotes and supports alternative resolution of disputes arising under the State law on transparency.
