A new MOOC for UNESCO sites

The new MOOC (Massive Open Online Course) was presented yesterday at the UNESCO headquarters in Paris. The project is coordinated by Prof. Lorenzo Cantoni, Head of the USI UNESCO Chair, and Prof. Maria Gravari-Barbas, coordinator of the UNESCO-UNITWIN Network “Culture, Tourism, and Development” (Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne).

The MOOC “Tourism Management at UNESCO World Heritage Sites” is hosted on the main French academic platform (FUN-MOOC), and is designed for political authorities, destination managers, students, and anyone interested in a closer look on how the world of tourism can relate in a sustainable way to World Heritage Sites.

The course is divided into eight modules – designed by 11 universities from 9 countries – through which participants will be able to deepen their knowledge on the subject by interacting directly with field scholars and several interactive material. 

The course will begin on January 15, 2018. Registration is already open: more than 1,800 people from 130 countries have already enrolled.

The event was attended by the Director of the UNESCO World Heritage Centre, Mechtild Rössler and several members of the Network UNESCO-UNITWIN.
