The new Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) produced by Università della Svizzera italiana (USI) is dedicated to the world of architecture, featuring the acclaimed architect Mario Botta, and starting on Monday, February 19. The new MOOC is the third in the series, after "eTourism: Communication Perspectives”, focused on the topic of online communication for tourism, and "From time to eternity. An introduction to Dante’s Commedia", dedicated to the famous work of the "Supreme Poet".

The online course is structured around a conversation with Mario Botta, the renowned architect from Ticino and founder of the USI Academy of Architecture, who explains what it means to be an architect and what is the role of architects and architecture, by presenting some of his works and describing the idea behind the foundation of the Academy itself. The course is designed for all those interested in architecture and art in general, and may be of particular interest for teachers, researchers and students in these contexts.

The intention of the MOOC is to offer an introduction to architecture and to the related profession. The course covers the following topics: living, the city and community; the light and materials of the architect; sacred architecture; restoration; architecture, design and traditions; Mario Botta's mentors; Mario Botta's works: the "Flower of Stone" on the Monte Generoso; the Academy of Architecture and the Theatre of Architecture. The MOOC is in English, whereas the original video interviews of Mario Botta are in Italian, with English capitions.
