Free access to knowledge makes further progress at USI thanks to a new agreement that now allows USI researchers to publish original research articles in Open Access (OA) free of charge in journals published by Taylor & Francis, Routledge, and Cogent OA.

This is the fourth «read & publish» agreement in which USI participates with other Swiss higher education institutions, after the ones reached with the publishers Karger, Elsevier, and Springer Nature. The agreement - negotiated by swissuniversities and implemented by the USI libraries - combines complete access to Taylor & Francis’ journals Medical Collection, Expert Opinion, and Expert Reviews, granting the opportunity to publish in OA for free. It therefore minimises cost increases, and represents an important progress for the Swiss national strategy on OA.

The agreement applies on condition that the researchers are corresponding authors of scientific articles and under contract with USI. (More information is available on the publisher’s website.) In addition to negotiating agreements with individual publishers, USI funds the publication of Gold OA articles in high-level peer-reviewed Open Access journals, if they are not already funded in the context of an SNF project. The framework agreement negotiated by swissuniversities applies to over 2000 Hybrid and Gold OA journals, up to a maximum national cap (260 articles for 2021, 366 for 2022, 450  for 2023). Be sure to check the complete list of journals before publishing in OA.
