Digicamp is currently taking place as part of the USI Summer Campus. Thanks to the activities carried out at the university or their extracurricular experiences, many students possess valuable digital expertise that should be exploited and shared. To do so, USI students take the floor and share their knowledge with their peers in a mutually enriching experience. "Il Quotidiano" (RSI) covered the event, featuring interviews with Digicamp founder Dr Peter Gruber and some young student-lecturers.

During the first USI Digicamp, 11 students from all USI faculties offer 17 modules in the broader field of digitalisation and its applications: programming, data science, web applications, digital media and social media. Each module lasts between 6 and 8 hours and focuses on a specific topic or tool.

The USI Summer Campus - which, in addition to Digicamp, offers a wide-ranging programme of activities - was born from a proposal made to the Academic Senate by a group of students who missed attending academic activities in person during the restrictions imposed by the COVID19 pandemic. Therefore, the Student Corporation and the Pro-Rector for Education and Students' Experience, Professor Lorenzo Cantoni, launched a survey to assess the interest in carrying out summer activities on campus. The response was clear; the project was enthusiastically welcomed and is now up and running (from 19 to 31 July 2021).

The initiative also falls within the activities to celebrate USI's 25th-anniversary according to the guiding principles: "Facciamo conoscenza" (which in Italian has the double meaning of "Let's get to know each other" and "Shaping Knowledge"), and "USI is U", i.e. seizing the opportunities of a university on a personal scale, where everyone can cultivate their uniqueness through encounter and dialogue.
