Registration is now open for the National Scientific Image Competition 2022, sponsored by the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF). The competition is aimed at scientists active at a Swiss university or research institute. The deadline for submitting entries is 31 January 2022.
The Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) invites researchers working at a university or research institution in Switzerland or Liechtenstein to submit photographs and videos. The works must have been created after 1 January 2021. Pictures, images, and videos will be rated in terms of their aesthetic quality and their ability to inspire and amaze, convey or illustrate knowledge, tell a human story, or let us discover a new universe.
The first prize of 1,000 francs and several distinctions of 250 francs will be awarded in each of the four categories of the competition:
- object of study
- research locations and instruments
- women and men of science
- short videos
The deadline for submissions is 31 January 2022.
An international and interdisciplinary jury chaired by Lars Lindemann, director of photography for the German magazine Geo, will choose the winning works that will be exhibited at the Biel Photographic Days from 6 to 29 May 2022.
The competition aims to offer a new perspective on science and how it is practised to reveal the infinite beauty it hides.
Since 2017, more than 2,000 images have been submitted to the contest, including some from the Università della Svizzera italiana:
- StCityFlyAround by Michele Lanza
- EclipseCity by Michele Lanza
- SmalltalkCity by Michele Lanza
- "Perhaps the take care of us start here" by Rosaria Del Giorno
- "The power of rapport" by Marta Fadda
