The French President will offer to the viewers of the MEM Summer Summit 2020, organised by USI and broadcast online at www.mem-summersummit.ch on Saturday, August 29, starting at 9:00 a.m., a 15-minute speech on the situation in the Middle East and Mediterranean region.
In addition to the speakers announced a few days ago (www.usi.ch/en/feeds/14231) the French President also accepted the invitation to speak at the Lugano Forum organized by Università della Svizzera italiana. Emmanuel Macron will speak about the importance of the region and its political balance, focussing on the conflicts in Syria and Libya and the crisis in Lebanon. The analysis of the French President – invoking for collective responsibility to find shared solutions – builds on pillars: religion, demographics, energy and politics.
The MEM Summer Summit 2020 is offered in a new online format that brings together – partly in the Lugano campus Aula Magna and partly at a distance – leading figures from the business world, political decision makers, academics and intellectuals, who debate on the major issues and challenges related to the Middle East Mediterranean region: from geopolitical configurations, to economic dynamics, to the role of art and literature to foster new and positive narratives of the region. The subject-based sessions will be held online in English and French, with simultaneous translation into Italian. As usual, the young people of the region (and not only) are offered the extraordinary opportunity to actively participate in the debate by sharing their reflections with the speakers.
Once again, and also for this online edition, USI enjoys the important support of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs of the Swiss Confederation (Middle East and North Africa Division), the City of Lugano and the Media partnership with SRG SSR - RSI.
