Sara Greco, Associate Professor of the Faculty of Communication, Culture and Society and vice-director of the Institute of Argumentation, Linguistics and Semiotics (IALS), has been elected president of the Swiss Society for Linguistics. The appointment occurred during the general assembly held in recent weeks in Lausanne as part of the 12th Day of Swiss Linguistics.

Professor Greco will succeed the current president, Professor Didier Maillat of the University of Fribourg, on 1 January 2023 and will serve for the next three years.

Professor Greco was also recently elected Chair of the European Conference on Argumentation (ECA), one of the most important international argumentation conference.

"I am honoured to have been chosen for these appointments," said Professor Greco. "I believe these decisions enhance a collaborative approach to national and international research and networking that, over the years, I have come to favour and develop. For example, in my role as leader of the Empirical Working Group within the COST Action project "European Network for Argumentation and Public Policy Analysis," together with my colleague Barbara De Cock (UCLouvain, vice-leader), I coordinated a group of more than 60 colleagues focusing on a leadership style that is as inclusive as possible and based on listening."
