China Media Observatory (CMO) at the Institute of Media and Journalism (IMeG) is organizing a special event hosting Brian Carlson, the head of the Global Security Team of the Think Tank at the Center for Security Studies (CSS) at ETH.

The talk will provide a strategic outlook on Russia's ongoing war in Ukraine, from the unique perspective of China-Russia relations. Carlson will analyze the interests and concerns of China in Russia's ability to achieve a favorable outcome in the war, as well as the potential implications of a Russian defeat on the regime stability of both Russia and China, as both countries view it as a crucial national priority. The talk will explore the complex dynamic between China, Russia, and Western powers such as European countries and the United States, given the challenge of pulling China away from Russia. Drawing on historical context, Carlson will provide insight into the changing China-Russia relations in response to current developments. This scientific talk promises to be a valuable opportunity for scholars and students at USI to deepen their understanding of the intricate interplay between Russia, China, and the West in the global landscape.

The event will be held in English and it is open to everyone. Due to the limited number of seats in the room, it is highly suggested to register by sending an email to [email protected]
