Communication as a tool for healing
Institutional Communication Service
28 November 2022
Registration is open until 16 December for the postgraduate study programme devised and sponsored by the Sasso Corbaro Foundation (FSC) in collaboration with Ente Ospedaliero Cantonale (EOC) and the Faculties of Biomedical Sciences and Communication, Culture and Society at USI. Classes for this Certificate of Advanced Studies (CAS) will be held on the Lugano Campus every month, starting 13 January and ending 15 December 2023.
The CAS "Communication as a Tool of Care" delves into issues concerning communication during treatment, addressing the most complex ethical issues from professional, relational and existential perspectives. Taking care of a patient, particularly a critical one, requires proper communication, and the same goes for building an environment in which co-workers can develop. Until recently, communication aspects in the care and work relationship were left to personal initiative or an empirical trial-and-error approach. Today, new knowledge, possibilities, and demands allow and require a more structured approach and openness to broader issues of ethics and society. In the face of this complexity, to which it seems essential for us to adapt, attention to the communicative and ethical aspects of the therapeutic and interpersonal relationship with all caregivers can offer patients and the team more respect and effectiveness in the care itself and also greater opportunities for personal satisfaction and growth.
