Advancing Sustainable Natural Resources Management through International Law and Governance

Interactive roundtable dialogue among leading international jurists, practitioners and academics, and renowned public policy experts, laureates of the natural resources leadership awards, and other distinguished experts. This international law and governance roundtable will highlight recent trends and innovations in sustainable natural resources management for development, also based on the recently adopted ILA Guidelines on the Role of International Law for the Sustainable Management of Natural Resources for Development, and consider how international law and governance can foster the implementation of the global Sustainable Development Goals. Discussions will focus on ways to ramp up ambition to achieve more effective and cooperative regimes for the sustainable management of global, regional, transboundary and national natural resources of common concern in the context of the pandemic recovery.

What can be learned from national policy and legislative experiences for enhancing sustainable natural resources management? How to incentivize legal and institutional reform for the progressive development of international law on the sustainable management of natural resources, especially in the context of the pandemic recovery?

How can resolution of disputes in relation to use of natural resources help promoting the principle of sustainable use of natural resources? How to align pandemic recovery measures with efforts to promote better sustainable natural resources governance in alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals?
